Re: Confused
Mouseclick,
I did think that my post might cause a bit of a stir, but it was not meant to be controversial/debatable or provoke a lot of dialogue either, but I do feel that the forum (rightly or wrongly) has been taken over to some extent with the focus on weightloss via fasting (however laudable that may be) rather than its primary purpose (in my opinion) of fasting for health-recovery and its maintenance.
Of course it IS true to say that being overweight or the state of obesity is helped enormously by fasting as opposed to the normal route of dieting, but if that is the ONLY GOAL of ridding oneself of excess weight, then a change of lifestyle will achieve the same result via a plant-based diet that is properly combined, and as recommended by Fuhrman and others such as Shelton, including an exercise programme to accompany it.
As I see it, the fasting for weightloss forum was created for that purpose (weightloss) and where only the lack of experienced support has led most to this forum, and largely combined the two goals.
I have absolutely nothing against anyone wishing to lose weight via water fasting, and where they deserve all the help they can get, and where anyone in that predicament would be very welcome here: it is just that of late, the emphasis seems to have been virtually on weightloss, rather than anything else.
I agree with Fasting2Goal's comments and most of Rooths comments, but there is a definite demarcation point between fasting exclusively to lose weight, and fasting for health and health-recovery. Inevitably weightloss occurs during a fast, but it is my opinion (and that of many others) that this should not be the prime objective unless you are obese.
If the above makes any sense (its been a long day) I have no objections to anyone posting here for weightloss, and how to overcome obesity, but I feel strongly that this should not dominate the forum as it has done in recent weeks/months.
Fuhrman is the modern-day Shelton, and where as I have said before he was an "Internee" of his for quite some time, and where you or anyone else can post to their hearts content re' him and his work ad-infinitum.
I think it is also true to say that people who acquaint this forum for weightloss will receive better advice, and where the fasting for weightloss forum is probably a disappointment and why they find their way here.
BTW, this is Dr Fuhrmans take on weightloss via fasting...............
"Dr. Fuhrman (ANHS conference 99): "You know - fasting is not that great a treatment for obesity in general, in other words I don't routinely recommend fasting for people who want to lose weight - I'd rather that they lose the weight first, and then come in to fast. When they begin their fast at a more normal weight, that's when we see the most effective results." [...for chronic diseases]
The important issue here I think is what you have said...............and where I cannot emphasize this too strongly...............it is most certainly your WAY OF LIFE that determines your health, and where fasting represents only a small part of that laudable goal for each and every one of us.
