Re: Absolutely, Sparque!

Hi again....well- today was a day to come home and drown some sorrows. It seems that I am getting into some trouble because kids are confiding in me. I'm not out seeking them, nor do I lead them with any questions. They just come into my room, either students I know, or they are friends of students I know. Seems I am one of the few adults that will sit and just listen. And kids being kids, out tumbles alll sorts of information. And they know I will report, usually they sit with me when I make the report. So the report is not part of my imagination nor am I off base with what I report.
My little girl, who I gave permission to be mad at me and I told her I will be there when she is ready - well she went to her academic counselor saying she hated me and had to be out of my class - immediately. The school psych was involved and said that nothing improper was going on, just that she is acting out. But the academic counselor took it upon herself to assume there must be more and complained to the administration. The complaint went nowhere, but now I am being watched, even more so since the crazy mom from a few days ago. And oh yeah, an update on my girl - I've heard she has hooked up with a girl gang, a pretty violent one, she is starting to use drugs, and she still won't talk with me. I'm now starting to think that with all the drama she has created, if she does show up, wanting to talk, for my protection, I should send her away; I'm just not sure. I don't want to reject her if she does come by, but I don't want to get in more trouble. What's the expression - No good deed goes unpunished.
Then late today, one of my students tried to commit suicide. She took a bunch of pills and passed out in the bathroom. She is fine, but when she came to, she asked for me. And what did the administrators say....oh....must be one of teacher X's kids.
So I now have the feeling that I will not be rehired for next year. Just because I listen, create a safe place, and foremost, I do what is morally and legally correct.
Go figure....do your job - get fired.
