Absolutely you can get rid of the virus! And I believe that the combination therapy is the only way. And yes, HepC is the precursor to cirrosis, and that will kill you. That is why you need to get to a specialist who understands the importance of treating you and now! I don't mean to sound alarming but why wait for another month if you can find a doctor now. You should get all the tests done and then decide on the therapy and begin. There is NO designated time to wait. It is your body and your life. Your kids need you, and you must have your hands full! I would not tell them much yet anyway. The more you know the less afraid it will be and you can rationally answer their concerns. They will then be willing to help you with the house and other duties if you have some tired time. They will want you to get better, so they will want to help you. It is important not to feel badly that you got this. Some will try to make it that way because they don't understand. Most of us don't know HOW we got it and it really doesn't matter. What matters is the best way to get rid of it and quickly! In my case, I was 35 when I found out through a routine exam also, and here I am at 51 just doing the treatment. But in 1988 they didn't have all this stuff anyway. So you see, it is slow moving, but depending on how long you have had it, alcohol etc, will speed up the damage.I have to step out to feed the sheep before dark...stay in touch, please. I am at this keyboard every day and evening, off and on. Good for you for asking questions. You'll get there.
