@ vektek - Except that nobody is denying that it's primary application belongs to the Old Economy. Even the author you approvingly cite recognizes its value to us today. There are also passages such as Rom. 13:1-7 and ITim. 2:1-4 that show us its New Covenant equivalent. I guess it boils down to a question of emphasis or balance, but I think it would be a mistake to regard it simply as a relic of the past.

I personally have serious doubts that Trump is God's chosen instrument to bring about change for the better. His earlier advocacy of torture alone puts him beyond the pale in my books. True, he is alleged to have changed his mind on that score, and I certainly hope that's true, but if his earlier opinion betrays his natural instincts, then clearly God has a lot of transformative work yet to perform on him.

It should not be beyond any believer to desire and pray for that transformation.
