Most authorities agree that much of it applies to the impending destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in AD70, and it isn't always clear where the 'demarcation' lines between that event and the end times actually lie.
Yes, we can look for the signs to give us a general idea, but the point about the rebuilt temple is that it pinpoints the time of the advent. However, these are somewhat esoteric points, and dwelling on them too much is of doubtful value.
