Re: Did Jesus go to hell between His death and resurrection?

Cue, I agree with Ed (MST) that this is not a salvational issue as to which belief you have on hell.

But one reason I think it makes a difference in which way you believe, is that if the eternal torment view of hell is wrong, is that not a horrible representation of God's character that is not true? Even we don't sentence people to torture when someone is convicted of a crime, even a horrible crime, in the United States, and I'm sure most other countries are included in that too. Why? Because we intuitively know that would be atrociously evil, even if the person is atrociously evil themselves. And even if we did sentence someone to torture, it couldn't be for all eternity like it will be in hell if the eternal torment view is correct. We have finite minds. We can't even fathom what eternity really even means, but we can try, so try to think this through: suffering for the unsaved that never ever ends!

Another reason I think it makes a difference is that there are people that are tormented, and I'm talking about Christians here, by the thought that their son or daughter for example that died not believing in Christ, is going to be tortured for all eternity. And if this view of hell is not correct, their suffering is needless and a result of a horrible lie. I would be in this camp of people if I believed the eternal torment view. I have loved ones that died not saved, and I have ones that are still living that could not be saved. I would be tormented thinking about them being tortured for all eternity if I believed that way. But thankfully, I have proved according to scripture, that this is not the case, and my mind can be at rest on the matter. I am still grieved by my loved ones not being in eternity with me, very much so, but if I thought they would suffer for all eternity, that I would not be able to handle.

There are other reasons getting to the truth of hell matters, but I'll stop there.
