Re: banana, carrot, cabbage and parsley to take the place of grains and dairy

Dear DL,
Indeed, this thread is getting tangled, but I'm paying attention!

1) On water, sodium, and blood pressure: In retrospect, I was not being entirely accurate. My mad water-retention days were when I was lifting, and it seems logical to assume that I held water in response to stress hormones & microtrauma (and probably decreased kidney function/kidney conniption due to high protein intake). The water I carry around now seems porportionate to the amount of glycogen I have stored; nothing edematous.

Last year I became fussed and fretful about potassium--I can't remember why now, perhaps I was cramping--so I started supplementing it. My well water is mineraltastic and I had a few people tell me I was being a ninny. Didn't notice it did much of anything, though I did stop waking up with charley horses :)

2) Toxemia: Since I've been eating whole foods for a couple of months, and for years before what I will call The Silliness, I seem to be pretty clean. At least I've not had any vomiting spells or migraines or itchy palms, which I'm used to when I detox. So far my biggest problem has been habit. I'm accustomed to steaming up a platter of veg when I feel cold. Not so much today!

3) Bananas, pesticides: I have to wash everything I eat, or else the coatings/waxes scratch my throat, but I think that's everyone. Only raw banana (cooked doesn't do this) seems to tear the skin off the roof of my mouth. I can tongue a little scroll of flesh up there after eating one. Doesn't feel nice down the hatch either. So I just swore off bananas... Are they related to anything? (I'll go google that).

4) Mucous (whew!! Look at us!!): Yes, I see your point. There's natural, called-for mucous and elicited (for lack of a better term) mucous. The only quibble I have is that organic skim milk does not seem to do such things to me. From your explanation, it's the protein that's the problem, so perhaps I have simply bought into the "health halo" around organic and willfully not noticed any excess with that particular dairy. Something else to test a couple of weeks from now :)
