Re: Fats

I am not even against any kind of fat, my point is this:

No medical practitioner on the planet would recommend the paleo HIGH FAT DIET to reverse cardiovascular disease, diabetes or obesity.

McDougall and several other MD's have been doing this clinically with a low fat high carb diet based on grains for decades.

I personally do not tolerate grains, that is why I adhere to the fruit based 80-10-10 diet. It is based on the same macro nutrient breakdown as the Starch Solution, but is raw.

There is no oil on either McDougall or 80-10-10. This goes a long way in helping to keep the proper omega anti-anflammatory fats in check, which helps to heal up many conditions.

It also plays a huge role in restoring the gut flora which is constantly disrupted by a high fat diet, hence the huge emphasis on fermented foods and probiotics on the paleo diet.

This leads me to my following personal belief and opinion:

I don't believe someone coming from a background of dysbiosis (all autoimmune diseases, cancer, candida, acne, diabetes, etc.) will be healthy long term on a vegan diet that includes over 10-20% fats, (especially from any kind of oils) as their gut will never heal and they will forever be deficient from the lack of a healthy established microbiome.

The reason why some people fail to thrive on a vegan diet is they keep the fat too high to properly heal their gut, plain and simple.

Meat comes in as a crutch when nutrients are low, then the vegan diet gets blamed, when actually it was the out of whack macro nutrient ratios (over 10% fat) that cause this problem (or often the so called "vegan" diet is actually a starvation diet of less than 2000 calories).

Plant foods can not compensate nutritionally for the dysfunctional gut on the level that meats can, however, if meats (with high fat) are included, a proper healthy human gut will never be achieved and meat will remain a nutritional unhealthy crutch for life.

Also, an equal amount of carbs and fat can not be consumed. One must be 80% and one must be 20% for the body to function properly. I don't think chosing 80% fat is wise, as again, no MD in the country would recommend over 30% fats for any kind of healthy diet, ESPECIALLY one to reverse heart disease as McDougall's does.

Many people following Paleo have no idea they are consuming the majority of their calories from fat.

I do appreciate any discussion of this relative to actual practical application rather than through the lens of anthropological philosophy.

If someone can name an MD who is practicing this, I would very much like to see it.

Thanks everyone...

HM
