Re: Battling Bacterial Vaginosis
I'm new to this site although I've been reading the posts forever to help with my battle of BV. What a nightmare. I've had this off and on for about 6 years. It literally stopped me from having intercourse all together for about 3 years. Which at the time I was married with a understanding husband who even was treated with the flagyl just to make sure it wasn't something being passed back and forth. Which. It wasn't.
I started to then get BV after every period. I stopped using tampons. I stopped having sex. I used the meds constantly. And nothing. Finally after going about a year or more without sex the bv did stop.
Unfortunately my husband have now been separated for a year and I've started seeing someone. WELL MY WORST NIGHTMARE COME TRUE. soon as I became sexually active again (I'm 35 years old) the BV came back with a vengeance.
I refuse to let this plague keep me feeling so insecure. I'm now in a monogamous relationship. I had my tubes tied 7 years ago. And of course I used other protection for other reasons when we began having sex. We now are committed and I'm horrified. He's been understanding. But to fear receiving oral sex. Or to worry every time we have sex... "Omg do I smell.. Is there a can of sardines coming out of me". I'm still embarrassed.
I started using the VH Essentials line. The oral pills. The vaginal suppositories, and the BV vaginal time release pill insert.
One night I forgot to use the suppository. And bam. Woke up in the morning with that smell and discharge.
Along with a yeast infection to boot. So now after intercourse and periods I'm guaranteed BV and a yeast infection.
I recently went to a woman gyno. She was great. Very much praised the VH essentials line as well as using the hydrogen peroxide water douche but not too often. She said once a month if I can... The vaginal suppositories have PREbiotics. I have been very grateful to the VH Essentials line.. Although nothing is "curing" it. I will have to life with doing all these things to keep my ph levels at good spot and also keep some good bacteria in there.
****now here's something I never read before.. That my dr informed of...***
Luvena (can be bought in drugstore in the feminine hygiene aisle) luvena makes a line of wipes, washes, and a prebiotic lube as well as pre filled applicators that are to be used at night. I have found that using the VH Essentials or the Luvena PREbiotics nightly have really REALLY helped me A LOT. As well as my taking the VH essentials oral capsules.
The vaginal time release pill insert worked great when the BV started. In fact I used half a tablet one night without using any other vaginal suppositories of course. By morning I was odor and discharge free. The next night I didn't even take the second dose. I was curious to see how long this half a pill lasted. I haven't used it since. Only the prebiotics.
I'm also now taking a probiotic just to keep the healthy bacteria in my body for the BV as well as just staying healthy.
It's worth a shot. For me I've been 3 weeks BV free. And that's record time (knock on wood)
