Re: Cured by eating only bananas for 10 days.
lalobear,
You may be right and a full vegetarian diet may not have been for you, but from all the cases of reported failures on the net that I've looked into, almost all were either weren't getting enough calories or eating too much fats. I heavily looked into this because I had a similar story like yours when I did a stint of being vegetarian a long time ago and started feeling weak and tired all the time after a while and then further hearing all the vegan horror stories in the news and seeing them on the net, I always figured the diet was no good.
Then from reading Dr. Fuhrman and others like him, I realized I was a junk food vegetarian and ate lots of processed soy products, lots of plant-based fats (nuts, nut butters, seeds, avocados, oils and whatever natural fats), lots of added "natural" sweeteners, little leafy greens, too much grains and not enough fruit. I have no idea how many calories I was getting, but wouldn't be surprised if it was on the low end.
I did what most people who failed on a veggie diet did, go the total opposite way and start eating a lots of animal products and I did start feeling better, but years later you see the reasons I came here seeking help and answers for. The diet answer may be somewhere in the middle, but I do know low carb and low calorie diets will eventually fail.
I haven't been necessarily recommending people go full vegetarian, vegan, or raw as you now (I'm not), just more in that direction from a heavy meat and fat-based diet and be sure to get enough calories.
