Reading these posts I am not sure what natway is suggesting. But I am not in favour of banning anybody who has an interest in nutritional ways to solve emotional problems. Even individual experiences with the effects of nutrition on human behaviour is always worthwhile considering.
If he is advocating a vegetarian diet, I simply cannot agree, because in my opinion a vegetarian diet is low in nutrient dense food sources that in my opinion are essential if we want to help the body synthesize feel-good neurotransmitters.
I believe we all have a unique biochemical make-up which says that one man's meat is another man's poison. Ultimately we are responsible for our own health, and we need to experiment with our diet to find out what is best for our health as individuals.
I guess natway was recommending the eating of bananas to overcome adrenal fatigue (AF). I agree with him that bananas are high in tryptophan, which happens to be a forerunner of serotonin. Bananas are also high in magnesium, Potassium and various vitamins and minerals. (Source which unfortunately does not list amino acids)) But to produce serotonin we need many other nutrients as co-enzymes for the production of various hormones and neuro-chemicals. For instance bananas do not contain vitamin D, also required in serotonin synthesis.
But I believe that the thread started off with a discussion of how to treat Adrenal Fatigue, Candidiasis and this touches upon a topic that I have an interest in.
I see adrenal fatigue, or chronic fatigue syndrome as part and parcel of the hypoglycemic syndrome. This illness is the forerunner of both Adrenal Fatigue and Candidiasis.
Hypoglycemia is responsible for the over-production of stress hormones - adrenaline and cortisol - which function to feed stored glucose sources in the body to the brain. The brain is totally dependent on glucose as a source of energy - called adenosinetriphosphate (ATP). The brain will die within minutes without this source of energy, were it not for the stress hormones to feed the brain again with energy.
However constant production of stress hormones will soon lead to adrenal fatigue resulting from an imbalance between potassium and sodium, then leading to depression and other mood disorders..
Furthermore, hypoglycemia which is caused by pre-diabetic insulin resistance may lead to higher than normal and unstable blood sugar levels exposing a hypoglycemic person to the risk of developing candidiasis. In fact hypoglycemia is associated with many other degenerative diseases.
Thus looked at it from this point of view there seems to be a much simpler solution to AF, candidiasis and mood disorders, by simply adopting the Hypoglycemic Diet.
This diet though is certainly not a vegetarian type of diet and is more aligned with a paleolithic diet, the kind of diet that we are genetically programmed to eat.
