Hi, I know this is an old post. I am 43 and have DI. My father has it, his father had it as did HIS father. It is not as bad as some genetic disorders, but it does crush your self esteem. I had a mother who was very popular growing up and she was extremely dissapointed in the fact that I was not pretty and outgoing like her and she let me know it constantly. I experienced much cruelty growing up. I was so distressed that I pulled out my hair... twice. I have begged dentists to give me dentures, but they will not. I have had 10 abcesses and they were extremely painful. Fortunately I have been able to get implants, I have 8 so far, but they have all been on back teeth and I'm still paying for them. My veeneers from when I was in highschool have all cracked and discolored so I have crummy teeth in the front. I have been quoted $6000 for 4 veneers in the front. I know they will just abcess so I don't want to spend money on them. I do not have children because I couldn't bear to inflict this kind of life on an innocent child. My cousins who have this disorder just keep on having children and I don't understand. Tweet
