Alot of it seems to depend on the type of system and whether or not complimentary medicine is allowed. Every National Health system has different factors involved. Canada practically banned Ayurvedic medicine. The practitioner I was seeing had a retreat in Canada, but when they stopped him from being able to bring in the traditional medicines, that was it. He sold his retreat.
Also in Canada, there have been scandals where the NHS sold patient data to various companies, since they had a captive group of people that have no other choice than to use the National Health System. Makes experimenting on the public a lot more convenient.
