Re:On Healing

...it depends....

many times, people are so emotionally
invested in being sick and the attention
it garners that to face health and healing
is too painful.

I personally have seen two people succumb
to this route. One, a millionaire with a
family, had so many issues with his father,
that he would rather die than to face
healing those issues. Besides he said, if
his family thought he was dying, he would
be treated to a huge going-away party. He
could not imagine that they would celebrate
that he had regained his health. His comfort
level involved clinging to his pain and
holding it up as his crown of thorns. He
saw death as the Holy Grail in validation
of his pain. He was more interested in dying
than leaving, and he did. That he had come
to ask for healing did represent a chance
but it was one he later rejected.

I have also witnessed many many rage therapy
sessions and some of those people wail and
rage so hard and long that it can be hard
to watch. Amazingly, it is a tremendous
healing method and people come out of it
feeling like they have just signed a new
lease on life.

The good news was they felt safe enough to
dis-engorge the pain which was choking the
life out of them. Grieving is also very often
a part of the healing process and there is
nothing warm and fuzzy about it.

Again, I venture to say that while the type
of healing you offer and sentimentalize about
is valid, so is the exposing the wounds of
life to air through awareness and burning
through the dross of denial.

blessings,
Zoe
