50 Shades Of....
Where is our species headed?

Right. So, this is a rant and reasonable, and sound responses are welcome.
With the marketing of the p 0 r n novel, "50 Shades Of Gray," I've come to accept that our society, as a whole, is going down the tubes in a quick hurry.
Yes, yes......"...to each his own..." is fine by me. But, there are some things that ramp up the ante with human behaviors. There are some aspects of human behavior that are, for the most part, unacceptable.
Every facet of human behavior has become acceptable, and it's a caveat to every human being involved in, or considering, a long-term and committed relationship. Do you really "know" who you're involved with?
When I was being set up by the exspath, he presented an old-fashioned and gentle nature. He was vociferously opposed to "arguments," and claimed this throughout the relationshit. He presented a spiritual and religious devotion that was uncanny - he was able to quote chapter and verse to support ANY view on any given subject. He appeared to be a wonderful, morally conscious, kind, and "fun" partner.
What the exspath truly was could be characterized in the book named, above, but with far more harsh and violent descriptions. He was living a double life, and he was adept at keeping secrets.
Towards the end of the "marriage," I learned just how deeply this matter of keeping secrets ran within his family dynamics, and this should have been a HUGE red flag that there were dynamics of deception throughout his entire family. His father disclosed to me that his mother had run over and killed a child, and that I was to NEVER mention this to the exspath because nobody in the entire family knew about it. The father was trying to explain why his wife "hates God." She ran over a child and prayed for God to save that child. When God didn't answer her prayers and "let the child die," she hated God for it - she blamed God for the death of that child. In retrospect, she kept this horrific secret - an accident that she should have acknowledged as a part of being human - to maintain her own illusion of "perfection."
Some aspects of our lives SHOULD be sacred - dignified, if you will. But, maintaining a secret about the death of a child is a screaming, flapping, waving RED FLAG. This means that other events and behaviors were EASILY masked and kept as "secrets." Masks eventually crack or fall off - it is inevitable, and saying to one's own family, "I ran over that poor child, and he died. I'm so sorry for what my actions caused," is not "wrong." To inform family members of our own humanity is "right" and "normal." This woman kept her secret for decades, and still believes that her "secret" is "safe" and that she still presents a facade of righteous perfection. What a sad, sad fool.
When did we lose our dignity? At what point did every label excuse humanity from integrity? Is our species doomed to extinct ourselves even in the light of advanced knowledge and "progress?" What I see in today's society and culture are the harbingers of the same, exact Empirical collapses of Ancient Greece, Egypt, Rome, and every other "great" empire. Anything goes. Everything goes. And, human victims are ridiculed for having been victimized - from the Stuebenville rapists to our own domestic partners, the human species seems to be in a mode of self-destruction.
Moral compass. Ethics. Dignity. Integrity. Did we, as a species, ever possess these qualities?
