Because your a woman, that's why you care. How many guys do you see worrying about anybody but themselves? How many sons care to call their parents more than once a year?
When are you women going to get it into your heads that you have a mothering nature; live with it. Keeping the peace with your mother is not that big a deal; but not discussing your childhood hurts is a big deal. Calmly of course, with no accusations. It might improve your sex life.
