Re: New to water fasting - Asking for advice

Hey, Valkyrie man, good to meet a fellow biker.

Fasting for weight loss isn't going to lower your metabolism. Dr Fung - intensivedietarymanagement.com has 2200+ patients he has fasted out of T2 Diabetes and he has not observed lowering metabolism except what is proportional to the reduction in weight. Like a 250lb guy uses 2500 calories when he's on his couch. A 150lb guy uses 1500. But you fast and you don't drop to 1200.
To really get to 1200 you need to do partial eating, like eat a tiny piece of bread every 3hrs.

Anyway fasting for weight loss - dry or Water Fast is extremely effective. And does not lower your metabolism. However there is a few caveats.
Fasting causes your weight and fat to drop very very fast. Fat secretes leptin. Leptin causes your body to say "we're full after this food" stop eating. When you're fat, you're leptin resistant and you have tons of leptin. You lose the fat, and you lose all that leptin. The resistance to leptin takes a while to catch up I think. So you have a nearly bottomless appetite. Have you seen a 150lb guy eat like he's a 250lb guy. Oh yea I do that.
Fasting teaches you nothing about yourself or what food is good for you. Worse yet, it gives you the power of the greatest weight loss mechanism ever conceived. So you're clueless and omnipotent. That is a recipie for disaster.
These are my observations so fat from going to 148 from 238 in just a few months.
Now I am working on a third theory that can tie all these together and give me and who ever else a way to correct themselves.

Insulin resistance does not follow insulin levels so closely. Insulin resistance follows Free Fatty acids as well. To lower insulin resistance you need to lower FFA's and insulin. Fasting lowers Insulin. Losing weight does not lower FFA's as much as you expect. That's why your lipid profile only improves slightly with a 100lb weight loss. If you however drop to under 7-8% BF likely the lipids will drop nicely. That should take down IR.

So fast your way to 7-8% BF and sit there for a few months till all the other factors catch up.

My theory, still to be proven. My next fast is still being planned. Likely 5 day dry, 5 day water and 5 day of fat and longer if needed till I am @ 7-8%.

Lets see.
Thanks.
Srinath.
