No, I am not defining these people as either good or bad. I am saying that they died without accepting the grace of Christ, meaning they are unsaved. I agree with you, that no amount of goodness can cause you to be saved, only allowing Christ to do the work on you causes you to be saved. The scriptures are very clear that the unsaved cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. The scriptures are far from clear showing that the unsaved will all go to hell.
