Re: Chronic scalp folliculitis

I have chronic scalp folliculitis and hate it more than anything. I've had it maybe three or four years now and it makes me feel very self conscious - it's oftentimes unbearable. Not only do I get pimple-like bumps, but my scalp itches like hell.

I've seen 3 dermatologists, 1 allergist, and my primary care physician for it. At one time or another, I was prescribed the following with no success:
Sulfamethoxazole
Doxycycline
Solodyne
Minocycline
Ampicillin
Azithromycin
Amox TR-K CLV
Differin lotion
Metrogel
Finacea
Veerdeso
Sodium Sulfacetamide and Sulfur Wash
Veltin
Altabax
Clindaycin Benzoyl Peroxide
Duac
Desonide Lotion
Evoclin Foam

I was put on Isotretinoin for 9 months and it seemed to work with the folliculitis but there's no way on this earth that I would stay on it for the rest of my life - it's way harsh. 6 months after my treatment, the folliculitis came back - not as bad but it was back.

Since then, I've been on Nicazel (maybe 2 years now) and feel satisfied. My scalp still drives me crazy - it itches and I get bumps but not as many so it's something. I make every attempt to wash my scalp with antibacterial soap 2 times a day. When I feel an itch, I rip open an alcohol swab and rub the itch lightly (I always carry a bunch in my pocket). The alcohol seems to send the itch away (and I suppose that the alcohol might help as an astringent). So that's what I've been doing. Some days are good days and I might not have anything up on top. Other days, like today, suck big time and I have a bunch.

I wish there were some solution to this issue. Should you find some method to successfully rid your scalp of folliculitis, please let me know. Thank you for sharing and good luck to you.
