This might sound really weird, but soda pop directly after a meal seems to help me digest and handle it a lot better, too (especially spaghetti and pizza, which normally just go through me and make me feel a little interesting, but not bad). I don't know if this would help you. That probably doesn't sound very hypoglycemia friendly, but it helps me! I think it's more the carbonation than the sugar. Maybe you could try club soda to go the safe route. I would avoid diet sodas, though.
I didn't drink soda in 2009; so, I don't know if it would have helped then when my digestional problems were bigger.
