Re: Adrenal insufficiency, and many other problems. Looking for hope.
Hi Marie-
(sorry this is soooo long)
So glad you are getting some relief through diet. Diet was the first big "A-ha" that helped me. It sounds like you are doing a similar diet.
I instituted something called "The Virgin Diet" and now it is a true lifestyle change for me. I feel soooo much better. The premise is that you remove the 7 most allergenic foods that irritate the immune system. Some are very surprising but are explained in the book..gluten, soy, corn, eggs, dairy, peanuts, and sugars. You than reintroduce one at a time. Personally, I opted to stay off all 7 items. If you google JJ Virgin or "The Virgin Diet", you can pretty much figure it all out without getting the book. But, if you want in-depth info, the book is a good resource. It seems very similar to the Palean Diet (not sure if spelling correctly).
I still have some whacky days, but I feel at least 85% better. Which lead me to the the other book, "The Hormone Cure". Know I'm repeating myself from last post, but this is SUCH a great book. It is one that every person, especially females, need to have in their personal library. I want to buy one for all of my friends and sisters.
Dr. Sata Gottfried explains things in such a down-to-earth way. She has suffered similar adrenal and hormonal issues herself. She provides research based protocols that she highly suggests for her clients and shares freely in the book. She's an integrative OG/GYN, and you feel as if you are a client and friend with the way she writes. Wish I could have her as my doctor. Guess this book is the next best thing.
You are right on the money when you say POTS is low sodium. Here is a funny saying but an easy way to remember the make-up of the adrenals. "Adrenals control salt, sugar, and sex... the deeper the gland goes the better it gets". Outer gland-Salt, Middle-sugar, Inner-sexual hormones. Hope I didn't offend you or make you uncomfortable with this analogy. Ironically, my daughter's Wholistic Pediatrician taught me that one. My teen daughter is suffering due to puberty. Hormones do a number on us! She has to take salt tablets daily. I keep trying new alternative treatments with her. Think I may have found something that is working. She was in the hospital 4 days ago, but today, she looks great and is at a slumber party.
Thanks a bunch for your input and sure hope that you are finding relief and healthy days ahead. Once again, sorry for the super long post:)
