Re: Legumes and candida
I had the same reaction to meat - as a child! I couldn't digest it and slowly throughout childhood reduced intake to just fish as a teen - until it would take a week to digest fish with no bowel movements for a week = severe constipation, so i gave up fish too in the end. It would happen with 100% wild caught fresh salmon my dad would fish for also!
I didn't know back then about candida...
Interestingly, adrenal fatigue and candida seem to go hand in hand - i have a suspicion that candida can bring about AF - because one gives up meat and any heavy protein foods due to bad digestion through candida overload - and therefore the lack of protein in the diet, with other stress factors, like life-stress aswell as possible bacterial infections,
parasite toxins, candida toxins stress - all help contribute to the sympathetic nervous system to become heightened and drain the adrenals slowly over time. Catching this trend before your adrenals crash is wise.
I'm focusing on the candida in order to make my Adrenal rebuilding protocol better.
Candida releases acetaldehyde - the same substance released from alcohol consumption - this is why people have a morning--after hangover from drinking binges...symptoms being foggy head, lethargy, no focus, fatigue - just like symptoms of candida overload. It's the acetaldehyde effects.
NAC (glutathione) helps to break down acetaldehyde - aswell as a lot of vitamins suggested for AF, so if you're on an adrenal fatigue nutrient protocol and compliment it with NAC - it'll help the body flush out the excess acetaldehyde that candida produces.
People with candida have had serum ethanol tests come back positive, despite the fact that they don't drink alcohol at all!
As candida progresses ones tolerance for alcohol become less and less - i know 1 glass of red wine now makes me very giddy, nauseous and sleepy. I no longer drink alcohol due to this. (Candida loves alcohol too!)
You're hydrochloric acid is probably not as strong as it should be causing you meat digestion troubles. You could try taking some HCL alongside digestive enzymes to improve your bowel function. Have the easiest you find to digest meats and steer clear of the harder to digest ones until more balance is found. I drink lemon juice to raise the HCL of the stomach. Have yet to try enzymes.
I know being so skinny makes it hard to deal with a candida diet. I find it quite annoying now how diet is focused solely on losing weight - and people marvel how much they lose on the candida diet - yet for skinny folk - these diets can be scary!
I'm wavering at 45kg, female, 5'7"...i have muscle wasting, no fat at all...and yet am HAVING to focus on minimising candida. I'm monitoring my weight closely, and trying to juggle calories verses anti-candida protocol. It's very difficult.
If you can afford a few kilo's more of weight loss don't be afraid of the candida diet - if you're really emaciated, try to build up before doing a full candida diet - initially by improving digestion with methods mentioned above so you can continue to eat a meat-dense diet for dense calories.
