Re: severe ankle sprain, will water fast accelerate healing process?

loki29,

In addition to Mighty's reply, let me add two points.

1) The pain and swelling around the sprain area is the body's way of saying "Keep off!" Putting ice or anything else on it to reduce pain and swelling is our way of saying, "we know better than the body!" Personally, I'd put my foot up and stay off it as much as possible.

I did this exact thing a few weeks back when I pulled something in my ankle and, in response, my ankle muscles seized up with intense pain. I kept the leg raised all day with the exception of essential trips around the house and made use of a crutch to help limit pressure on it. By the next morning, my ankle was almost back to normal. All that was left was the soreness in the specific muscle that I'd pulled

2) my sister-in-law, some years ago, thought that she had sprained her ankle but in fact she had sustained at least one major fracture. She walked on it for a week before finally getting it checked out. You might want to consider getting your ankle xrayed just to be sure. Alternatively, you could allow it a day or two to settle down and if it doesn't or if you find that it is still seriously painful to put weight on, then a hospital visit will be a good idea.

Kind regards,
NH...
