Re: Choice
I have seen large volumes of human beings, homeless and absolutely crippled with hunger, their bodies painfully twisted and distorted from malnutrition with leash in hand, a dog on the other end.
I myself have experienced states of extreme hunger, where days would pass without a proper meal, and though my body consumed its own muscle mass, I still chose to omit meat product from my diet, though it was plentiful at the time.
It all comes down to choice, whether or not it is viewed spiritually.
And perhaps, turiya, I certainly wouldn't want my dog around you if you were experiencing an extreme state of hunger ;)
I truly would love to meat your dog, Skylar:) We may just have a few bones to pick over together. mmmm... a black lab dog.
This reminds me of an old Wombat joke I have seen somewhere or other - What did the Zen Master say to the black lab hot dog vendor??? ---Make me one with everything! Yeah - Ha! Ha!
People in America, including the homeless, have no idea what it means to be really starving... Sure, people can say I am so hungry I could eat a horse. (And some look like they have eaten a horse.) But what I am talking about is starvation... in America... you know - famine. But, that's right - none of us have known what that is like. Most of the homeless I see in this town are better dressed than I am. What to say about those in the third world. And that is where this country is headed. You know... electricity out for a good part of each day. Internet gone. Communication gone. glitch! Its on its way to becoming another third world.
The real test that I see coming for the lot of us, is not so much that people will be eating their pets, which I am sure will be common place in those dark days ahead. Dog is pretty much a common meal in number of the countries in Asia.
But the real test is how popular it will be to eat those crispy critter mealy bugs that fly and crawl around your house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE3xoeVHPKs
