I see the operative word here as being domesticated, meaning controlled by humans. I don't believe that animals are very emotional, certainly not in the sense that we as humans understand emotion. I have worked a lot with horses in my life, and the biggest mistake that a human working with horses can make is to assume they feel the same way as we do. In my experience they do not display emotions as humans understand them, they can however respond to human emotion in their own way, and they do however react with instinct and learning.
I'm not sure what you mean by animals having belief systems, would you please explain this more for me :)
As for the baby in the room, from my personal experience with my own child, either is likely to end up in the childs mouth, as this is how babies sense the world around them, the rabbit is likely to be harder for the baby to catch than the apple though.
