Re: Again Hi everone

Hi Will_I_Ever_Learn,
My own thoughts with reference to your paragraph from your earlier post...............

"As for fasting, 25 years or so ago, I did a Water Fast for about 20 days. I don’t recall much but if I remember correctly, there were days where I had clarity of mind that I rarely attained (or may be it was just an illusion). Now days I would not dare to do such an extensive fast, I would be concerned by de-mineralization and loss of muscle mass. If I had to do it again, I would read a lot about it. Back then, there was no internet. Probably I would read posts from this forum. If I did it again, it would be for weight loss, as I am very overweight."

I would just like to say that the clarity of mind you experienced on your 20 day fast, 25 years or so ago, is by no means unusual....................

There is indeed a little more trepidation nowadays in undertaking an extended water-fast, because of the publicity and consequent fear of electrolyte/mineral deficiencies...........and rightly so.
At the time of Shelton and his preceding generation, ED's were of little to no concern for Natural Hygiene/Fasting Doctors, as the soils of the day were a rich source of nutrition, and especially minerals. Processed foods were rare if not unheard of and most people lived on a bill-of-fayre that supplied all of their nutritional needs, and which also meant that any one persons internal food reserves were more than adequate to meet the requirements of even the most extended fast.

Today however, that is not the case; the food supply has become deficient by degrees, in many essential nutritional elements because of intensive agricultural farming methods, and where the minerals (for example) are extracted from the soils by crops, but not replaced thereafter. Dr Joel Wallach likened this to a bank account, where the withdrawal of money (unless replaced) makes for a bankrupt account and in this case a bankrupt soil.

However, this "fear" of ED's can be avoided with a pre-fast diet, of some months standing, consisting of high quality organic, and high-water-content-raw-food, and supplementation of wholefoods such as Chlorella and Spirulina.
Following this regimen for that period of time would ensure that no ED's can occur, even on the most protracted fast, and until the return of hunger, the main demarcation point where fasting ends and starvation begins.

MUSCLE LOSS.....
Over a 30 day water fast, a person generally loses a maximum of 1-2 pounds of muscle mass which is very minimal. This conservation of the body's protein is an evolutionary development, to protect muscle tissue and vital organs from any damage during periods of insufficient food availability, for whatever reason that may be.

Water-Fasting is probably the easiest way of losing weight as the appetite is suppressed by Ketosis, and where many members here would strongly testify to its superiority over a reducing diet.
You might wish to read the online publication by Allan Cott MD "Fasting: The Ultimate Diet" to see what I mean.
