Re: Hi everone
hi there,
i too have only been reading about water fasting for about the last week...have not as yet thought to do one..(was thinking of juice and easing into one) although I have substantially changed my mindset about it --i used to think it quite a dangerous thing, and ill-advised. But then I was viewing it from the perspective of starving, which i have experienced in the past..and the perspective and perception of what one is doing is 90 percent of the doing..
.Now I think I have a much more balanced view: respectful, and not "heroic", as you say--at least not the "stupid" part.
:-)
my reading recently, via links from this site to the stories of the old fasting masters would tend to support your experience as being 'okay'....and considering that these episodes passed, and quickly, it suggests to me, contact with some level of cleansing or 'intoxication'. Consider how much is going on at the level of the body scanning for 'things to sort out' -- so to speak. I would humbly suggest 30 days might be in the heroic realm--and this is why:
one thing that comes to mind when you mention the past feats of endurance, and all, along with the admittedly high carbohydrate (and nutrient-lacking) days of green tea and bread and jam, is acidity and depleted stores of calcium. My understanding of bones spurs and osteo...etc. is that the blood calcium levels have been high, as the body pulls calcium from the bones in order to alkalize.
That the blood tests as "clear" doesn't, i feel, mean much, since in your case, the calcium that was leeched to alkalize the whole system then was treated as 'rogue' , ( this is just intuive, based on study over the past seven years or so, and is a more complex happening than i can articulate), and remember too that exercise is acidifying....and mineral-depleting. It sounds as though you have depleted your stores, over the years. That you have spurs is just the body's way of attempting to deal with sequestering calcium and deal with acidity.
I wonder if you'd consider just a short water fast (something to sleep on, and put to your inner guidance).my sense is, you could gain a lot from that, and then rebuild your mineral stores. Blackstrap molasses, lemon, good calcium, magnesium, kelp... like that. High-brix fruits and vegetables. I have a feeling the green tea in excess can be acidifying too.
interestingly, this post of yours finds me in a green tea phase--just these last few days, drinking quite a lot of it.
anyway, If you are 140 pounds, you might want to rethink thirty days. For myself, I think I will begin with a sort of modified master cleanser, (with molasses) and juice, and then maybe start with three days water. I have a feeling it's good to have a coach for this...that's what the masters say, anyway...I would listen to your body..Anyway, i wish you well.

meditation and rest both sound like good friends.
just a final thought--i've noticed that some people approach the water fasting as a form of penance, whether that is conscious or not--more a "purging" and expiation than a cleansing..I just wanted to add: the quality of mind really makes a world of difference, hm? That's where I think meditation comes in...and maybe especially now, ought to begin with compassion for oneself, then radiated. (I just finished a ten day retreat and it has stayed with me. Now, I go to sit. to "start again".:-) )
take good care.
