Re: Jesus Prays for His Disciples
Why do you insist on justifying war? You are finding that you have to put EXTREME effort into that (two posts, one after another), your conscience is telling you something.
Scripture is not supposed to be INTERPRETED, it is supposed to be simply UNDERSTOOD (like a cooking recipe), scripture is not an art or philosophy that you can apply to your life however you choose (have respect for OBJECTIVE truth, John 14:6).
All throughout history, the bible has been used for many crimes against humanity because the user chose certain verses to mean whatever they wanted them to (INTERPRETING them) so that they could continue doing as they well please. This would bring the user PEACE in their conscience (at least they thought it would), but then they would always have a need to make the extra effort to CONTINUOUSLY justify their actions/intentions because their conscience would haunt them.
The verses of scripture should never be isolated/kept separate. The CONTEXT (whole chapter/situation) should be understood (one verse by itself can be used to mean just about anything the reader wants).
Godliness is NOT "TEXT". God is not a BOOK, God is not a VERSE. Godliness is not simply TRUSTING God (faith). GOD IS LOVE (are you a loving person? Do you LOVE Him? and have respect for humanity?). The soldiers fight because they truly believe in their conscience that they SHOULD (God will take that into account), but that doesn't give YOU the right to be predatory and disrespectful to humanity.
Hebrews 9:14 is the most forgotten and misunderstood verse about salvation. On the cross Jesus purified our SOULS, but only if we learn from God's eternal spirit (sword of the spirit), can we also have our CONSCIENCE purified.
