That's a Luna Moth! Sounds like you had a very good omen there!!!

This is a shot of a female Atlas Moth. The Atlas moths have the largest wing surface area, sometimes spreading 10-12in. These are so gorgeous, it's hard to believe they're actually real life creatures!
