Re: surgeon advised to go on a water fast

Ahh, Chris, I've always respected you enormously and I do not wish to oppose you in any way. And I certainly wholeheartedly agree that drinking water excessively is definitely not good – perhaps I used a too strong expression saying the urin should be “clear”. However we do come from different traditions, I suppose.

Being Czech most of the literature on fasting published here is written either by Czechs or translated from Russian, where there's been a long tradition of therapeutic fasting. However that doesn't allow me to provide any links, I will just have to use the English I have to try to explain what I have learnt from those. Before I even tried to fast for the first time I studied the information excessively and I have also put some of the stuff in practise, however I am by no means an expert and all I can offer are some of my own observations and opinions I have read about – let's consider it just one more point of view.

From what I understood it is the best to start fasting with a clean colon - to take at least some burden off the body when detoxing. However some people may release such large amounts of toxins that they may face the danger of auto-intoxication (toxemia) which may cause more harm than good. I have read about Shelton's experience - pain and weakness - but from my own experience it is not the same for everyone. I know people who experience fatigue after enemas and I know people who actually feel better (including me). I suppose the best way for everyone is to try for themselves and see what it does to them. I have certainly never experienced any pain whatsoever, however taking enemas is definitely not my hobby and I do it only before fasting and I used to do it during my earlier fasts when my symptoms were heavier and it did relieve me. Other medical and natural doctors also found different results than Shelton, so who knows. As I said – we should listen to our body and if the detox is too strong, unpleasant or even dangerous, it may be helpful to aid the body. How can we detox with our guts filled with decaying stuff making things more difficult? Again it all depends on an individual, their health state, previous diet, preparation for the fast and many other circumstances. However I do refrain from trusting ANY expert completely, I study, pick and implement, see what works for me, talk to people who fast and then make my own conclusions. I am quite aware that there is a great difference in opinion as regards enemas and many other aspects of fasting, so let's just leave it at that. Plus each of us is different.

I suppose it is the same with drinking water – with the exception that – you are absolutely right – TOO MUCH is really harmful. Nevertheless different people react differently. I personally actually prefer to start my fasts with one or two dry days and I drink little when fasting, yet some of my acquaintances seem to benefit from drinking more. I know a guy who has fasted for more than 60 days and he stresses a lot observing the colour of our urin and making sure it doesn't get too dark (mine does anyways – the same way as yours ;), but for certain individuals this may be crucial. Now I regert that I didn't word my previous message with greater care and that I omitted to mention how individual these things are. Ah well.

Anyway
thanks for all the care you profess on this board :)

regards

Vanda
