Re: surgeon advised to go on a water fast
Hi resurgem,
Mainstream medicine sometimes does recommend fasting as an answer to chronic overweight or obesity; correct me if I'm wrong but that is probably why your surgeon has recommended it.
There is mostly a bad taste in the mouth while water fasting, accompanied by a foul breath, but that just depends on how "toxemic" your body is pre-fast and which are just a few of the signs that your body is throwing off metabolic waste and other toxins.
I used a mouthwash to alleviate this taste problem which did not seem to affect the result of the fast at all.
However,in answer to your questions: dry skin (among other symptoms) can be a sign of dehydration which can be dangerous if prolonged, so be sure to take plenty of water and water only of at least a pint a day.
These are most common signs of dehydration...........
Thirst
Loss of appetite
Dry skin
Flushing
Dark colored urine
Dry mouth / Cotton mouth
Fatigue / Weakness
Chills
Head rushes
If the dehydration is allowed to continue unabated, when the total fluid loss reaches 5% the following effects of dehydration are normally experienced:
Increased heart rate
Increased respiration
Decreased sweating
Decreased urination
Increased body temperature
Extreme fatigue
Muscle cramps
Headaches
Nausea
Tingling of the limbs
Be aware that these are not the only symptoms that may manifest in response to dehydration, these are simply the most common. Symptoms of dehydration will differ from person to person because the body is a complex network of systems and everyone's body is different. When these systems are disturbed due to loss of fluids there will be several common symptoms shared by most bodies, but there may also be unusual or unexpected responses depending on the particular person in question. Age also plays a part in the manifestation of symptoms. Signs of dehydration in a child will not be the same as those experienced by a teenager, adult or in the elderly. Dehydration prevention is the best treatment for every age group. heatstroke is always around the corner.
Should you take vitamins?
The answer from this forum is usually NO, as it will interfere with the fasting process as far as cleansing and healing are concerned because you will be stimulating digestion.
I think you will find this link quite informative as to the reasons why you do not need to take vitamins or other supplements while fasting.

It is best not to take any form of nutrition for the above reasons (including bouillon) as you will get the maximum weightloss and health benefits from water only.
Can you fill me in on any other details re' your surgeons recommendation? as this would help everyone here to give a more accurate answer to your questions.
