Re: The institutionalized church?
Healme, I get your point. Really when it comes down to it- God doesnt need a building. Alot of religion is basically man's idea of serving God-- like during the Tower of Babel. Remember the words they used, 'LET US BUILD ..." It was never, "LET GOD"
When King David made the Temple of Isreal for Him, God even told Him it wasnt necessary, but He was touched that David did this for Him, so He permitted it.
God dwells in the hearts of those who want Him in their heart.
For practicality reasons, rain, snow- comfort-- we all take time out of our schedule to worship Him in a building. Still, we need to come to the point where we dont need physical crutches to worship God. What if one day we are all in FEMA prison camps- or whatever. They sure as heck won't give us a chapel to worship God. We will have to find Him outside of a building-- find Him inside of our hearts.
As for tithes-- God doesnt need our money- but He gives us the opportunity to GIVE of what He gives us.
My late pastor-- a man who was like a grandfather to me-- would always give God all His money and ask God to take what He needed first before He spent any of it. He never wanted for anything- even to the day he died in his 90's.
