Tracey I was always told that my fathers name was french, but my sister says irish. A quick search on internet says irish/scottish/english to me the name is not obvious but when I see the variations it makes sense. Now The name itself is ancient hebrew origin and the coat of arms has symbols from ancient egypt before heraldry was born. We have not met decsendants of the people that brought my fathers people over here. Only on my mothers side. So i do not know exactly exactly what region they were from. Maybe I'll do more research.
