I'm sure it goes back much further than even this...I'm no history buff. How many of these quotes by Hippocrates do you agree with and how many do you disagree with? Considering this was a man who believed in "gods", who summed up some things correctly (and some not). He gave glory to things incorrectly but still thought prayer was good. Can we learn by observing life/nature and see the hand of God healing? If we dig deeper...can we see how our thoughts and actions can bring on sickness or healing within our lives? Bear with this man as he does his best to explain what he sees.

Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease.
If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.
Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.
A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings, and learn how by his own thought to derive benefit from his illnesses.
Walking is man's best medicine.
Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.
Everything in excess is opposed to nature.

Keep a watch also on the faults of the patients, which often make them lie about the taking of things prescribed.
What medicines do not heal, the lance will; what the lance does not heal, fire will.
Prayer indeed is good, but while calling on the gods a man should himself lend a hand.
Lol, now I left that last quote at the end for a reason. From a spiritual standpoint, a christian can pick this information to death....yet there is no doubt some truth mixed within many of these statements. Some I don't agree with. What a dilemma. Should we ditch all info coming from this man because he believed in gods and not the the one true God? I don't like most information that doctors give me, but do they have some truth? Do we have to either make up our minds that going to a doctor is a sin because he does not have all the correct truth and never use his advise or do we use our God given wisdom in each case and select carefully?
Personally I think we all have a certain amount of truth understood correctly and a certain amount of false info concerning healing. Should I ditch you all? ;)
What can we say...we live in a fallen world. A mixture of clay and iron. Until Jesus returns, we ask the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom to pick through the sea of lies and embrace only the truth. And when we fail to listen closely enough...grace.
