Re: Sleep and adrenal fatigue

hey Jericho,

we have similar backgrounds.. I'm 23/f and can relate to basically all of the symptoms you describe above. My most recent symptoms being insomnia and depression.

what I came to realise with my insomnia is that I was overloading my body with supplements and herbs. So, I decided to stop taking EVERYTHING and within three days was sleeping better than I have in months.

Because I had had such severe insomnia (not sleeping at all for days at a time), i developed some anxiety around going to bed. I took Sanalepsi N (active ingredient Doxylamine succinate) for about a week at bedtime to help train my brain to be comfortable with falling asleep again.

Now I'm doing better than ever (still not 100% but feeling like I'm finally tasting what it's like to feel "normal" again). I contribute this last stage of my recovery to being able to get deep restful sleep.

Adrenal fatigue can be incredibly frustrating.. one symptom disappears and a new one arises. Healing has so many ups and downs - it can be very disorienting and frustrating. But keep chipping away...! And as vague as this may sound, always follow your gut.

I'm now just keeping to a very healthy diet:
-no Sugar or refined carbs
-lots of veggies, protein, complex carbs
-plenty of vit B rich foods (mainly yeast and bee pollen) + a moderate amount of high quality B complex (which includes pantethine)
-plenty of vit C rich foods (lots of kiwis, red peppers, parsley) + an acerola berry vit C supplement
-I take Diatomaceous Earth and drink lots of broth for trace minerals (also add Sea Salt to lots of food)
- Epsom Salt baths
-I drink nettle water (research some of HV's past threads for more info) but I do know that in TCM adrenal fatigue goes hand in hand with weak Kidney function and nettle definitely aids in restoring this organ (and well, supports pretty much all of our organs!)
-I also drink plenty of tea (mainly rooibos) and warm fluids throughout the day
- I spend lots of time in nature and visualise my feet have roots which connect to the centre of the earth. I also visualise my body drenched in the colour red (healing colour)
- yoga as well as immersing myself in spiritual literature (I love the work by Carolyn Myss and Michael Singer ) have also been helpful in grounding myself and coming to terms with having the rug pulled out from under me
-accupressure has also been VERY helpful

I guess this list is starting to get long...! Hope that you will take something from it. As you've probably figured out by now, I see healing as a very holistic process. Mind, body and soul were out of balance to create AF, consequently, mind, body and soul must all be nurtured to create harmony once again.

Wishing you all the best and sending you lots of love and light.

- Katie
