Re: Assumptions

I find it very interesting that many people believe that when a person has an idea, or thought, it is always because of the influence of another.

I found this to be a common assumption when I was studying at university. I wrote an essay, referenced where I had taken ideas from someone else's work. I received my essay back from the lecturer, with red ink all over it saying that I hadn't referenced correctly or fully. I spoke to the lecturer, and told her that the ideas that I didn't reference were my own words, from my own thoughts, and I asked her to show me where she believed I had gotten the information from, that I supposedly had not referenced. She couldn't do this, as these ideas were my own.

It is quite possible to come up with your own ideas, without having to be affilliated with a group, belief system, guru, teacher etc.

I have noticed this tendency to assume that because someone has an idea, that doesn't fit within a belief system or religion, others will try and attach a label to the person, and the idea.

Original thought is possible, all ideas start somewhere, and you may be the one that actually has that original thought.
