If acids are reduced by oxygen, oxygen is then diverted.
 
Diverted oxygen means reduced oxygen for other functions.
 
Increased alkalinity implies reduced acids.
 
Reduced acids implies increased oxygen for other functions.
 
Therefore, Increased alkalinity implies increase of oxygen for other functions (other than to reduce acids).
