A great many people are unaware that the ginger served with fish\sushi in Japan, kills fish borne parasites and the clove used in pork preparation in the U.S. killed the pork borne parasites etc.

I am sure other countries traditionally may have used their different herbs and spices for many of the same reasons.

People should study and learn to cook again traditionally... there was a prpose to it.

We have wandered away from it...

If one cannot handle the spice\herb traditionally used for a specific dish in order to complement and balance the meal nutritionally and\or kill the bad bugs it may harbor, do not eat that food. Do note however, if one country's method does not appeal to you, another's may, offering the same parasitic\bug killing benefit.

Just another way to look at things.
