I'm doing it right now! I've got a jar, and I'm chain smoking this brand new pack as I type. I'm putting out the smokes in an ashtray before putting them in the jar.

Should I put water in the jar and extinguish them that way? That's extra gross! Don't know if I can bring myself to put urine in the jar (like MentalNomad's friend)..but hey, whatever works! ;)

I imagine smokers the world over carrying their jars with them everywhere. What a visual! Carrying the jar has heavy symbolic meaning, and like you said--makes the invisible visable.
