Re: Whoa, hey! Easy on the "whining" label...
One of the things I've appreciated about this forum is that it is almost always so supportive, and doesn't tend to be preachy. As a "lurker" who doesn't often post, I wanted to say that, Confoundry, I hear what you're saying and I think you registered your reaction to what you heard fairly. I wouldn't like to be called a whiner either for saying that some of what all of us are doing is hard. Great for those of you who can count it all joy or just get down to it, but this is a case where I can't see how it hurts anyone to have a genuine difference in perceptions. Also, none of us are always careful about our word choices, and it's fair for other people to let us know how our words affect them. I don't see it as defensiveness, but open communication.
And I'll register my difference of opinion with the person who said that people should always do a search before posting. It's definitely a good idea to use the old posts as a reference, but we may not just be looking for the answer to a question. We may be looking just to connect with other people about our experience, in real time.
If everyone were just using this forum as a reference tool, we could just about close it down now- but many of us need it for support which we get by asking questions- dumb, or not. As a former teacher, I think it's important to welcome them all. Sometimes the most insightful questions are the ones that almost weren't asked. I really appreciate all of you for the input, suggestions and community that you contribute to. It's what's gotten me to day 6 and counting!
