moving doesnt solve all your problems, but for a young man who feels very pigeon-holed and judged and ostracized in his hometown, a fresh start can be a real kick in the pants and give him a new perspective. its not a cure, but it can be a useful aid in finding a cure. i think for him it would be a good idea.
