Re: A new victim of UC

Steve,

I agree with you. I have a really hard time believing that this disease just appeared out of nowhere, and can only be contained with diet. My husband developed UC a couple of years ago at 31, and was put on Asacol last year. He was doing ok, then went on vacation and cheated. This led to a terrible flare-up that he is now having a terrible time getting under control, even with meds and diet. I have been doing as much research as I can to find out the underlying cause of this disease, and alternative approaches. Recent reading has led me to a book I have about cancer that actually talks about yeast overgrowth caused by several factors including bacteria, as well as an abnormal ph in the colon. I do not believe that one diet will work for everyone. Our ph is all different, and sometimes you need to eat certain things to increase the acid level, or decrease it. While some people do get better, others will get worse. We are going to try some probiotics in a strain of 10 billion live cultures, and see how that works. I will keep you posted. Good Luck with your search. I know how depressing this can be. Every time I look at my husband when he is in pain, I feel absolutely helpless. Don't give up on finding a cure!!!
