Also I can sense that what I breathe out through my nose is what smells really bad...so that's another reason it is so hard to smell because it's coming right out of your nose, so the smell is constantly there....it's a desensitizing affect...also I smoke so I'm sure that's not helping my sense of smell and making me smell worse at the same time. So I now know at least that is the reason why taking a shower has no affect on how we smell....didn't really understand that until now, even though that has been a common conclusion on this site.
