Re: you are very thorough, i like that-reply
I believe sometimes people can over spiritualise the bible and it's teachings. The bible was not written just for theologians, or people to look deaper into the text to find out the 'true' meaning of a verse or chapter. The bible was written for everyday people, and Jesus displayed this with parables. If a person was to just pick up the bible from the street and read that chapter, what impression would he/she get?
Yes, I understand that there are alot of verses talking about putting your old self to death, and rising up anew creation, this is the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven. Another word that sums all of that up is 'repent'. But that's not what Jesus was using this parable for. He was giving people an example of rewards, and how people use their rewards.
The rich man, didn't even need to be rich, he could have been an everyday person who was eating, and being aware of a poor person at his front door begging for food. Jesus used a rich person as an example of someone who has the full reward of what this world can give, to not share with someone without. Now this same parable can be used in other tenses, replace bread crumbs with 'the Word of God', replace the rich person with 'Believer in Christ', replace poor person with 'non believer'. This is why parables were used; to reach those with little understanding.
I also read in another reply that Jesus used Greek mythology to explain what He was talking about in the parable. I really suggest you think about what you have said, why o' why would God even try to use a pagan religion to explain what He was talking about? Why would He choose to use the devil's wisdom instead of His own???
It's like saying we should lie to people to do righteousness...wake up bretheren, don't be fooled and don't fool yourselves.
God would never use a pagan religion to explain Himself, He doesn't need to, He is all mighty and all powerful, and He is full of wisdom, Glory goes to Him always and forevermore!
Lu 18:25 -
"For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Jesus here did not say it was impossible, He just said it was very hard. I didn't say anywhere that rich people do not goto heaven, nor did I imply that. I mearly gave an example of the afterlife explained by our Lord Jesus.
To give an example of a rich person finding it hard to get into heaven, say you had a million dollars. And God asks you to spread $950,000 to various places, ie. churches, ministries, etc. How hard would it be for you to say OK? Now to some, it could be easy, but to many others, very hard, to the extent that some would refuse. This is what Jesus was talking about. And it boils down to how much trust you have in the Lord.
Remember bretheren, don't over spiritualise, ask the Lord for answers and He will tell you if you are not sure. Read what is there, and don't try to come up with different doctrines from a few lines of scripture. Remember Jesus came to reveal things to us, and He did. I might also add He did a great job at it, as we can just pick up the bible and read, and understand.
God Bless You All!!
