Re: Raw Diet Confusion (edited)
Hi Continuum Force,
I may not be able to directly help you, but here is some food for thought…
You have been on these boards and are well aware we all may have unique needs... and I am far from 100% raw, 70 - 75% presently. That said, I have focused on organics first (if I can get them from a known source, that is my first choice) and then (from food sources) the macro minerals second, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and zinc. I also eat kelp and/or dulse every day as a seasoning, or just to munch; I know, weird. I think everything else falls into place and if not, you will feel it and have cravings that will lead to YOUR “ideal” diet.
I have become a little less concerned with protein and vitamins as time wore on and here is why... if our bodies are functioning properly and in balance, I believe they can manufacture their own vitamins, tweak minerals into usable forms and compounds, and build proteins and fats in many places like the liver and through the bacteria in the gut, better utilizing the foods we eat.
I also use chlorrella, spirulina and maca most days. I got to thinking when "krill" oil recently was (is) being marketed as the next big craze, that this (supplements business) is CRAZY. I also do not put much stock in RDA of minerals and vitamins any more (potassium RDA is 3.5 grams and supplements are maxed out by the FDA at 99mg; what’s up with that?). Using the krill as an example, here we have a tiny little fish that feeds on plankton, which huge whales feed almost exclusively on and all three, from the plankton up are healthy and get what they need! A little salt water, some sun, clean water, and good, nutrient dense food and your body will take care of itself, proteins, oils, vitamins, and minerals.
