Re: To Xena,

Hi Deb,

OK., I see some differences here... my doc reports trying many antifungals, and only finding the oral nystatin powder effective for the gut. It does not leave the gut, so it would not help the systemic/blood stream problem, but it sounds like your doc is working on that end. The reason my doc believes the powder is the best form is for the surface area. Also, the other antifungals are destroyed in the stomach and absorbed into the blood, but never make it to the gut. Powdered nystatin makes it through. I had three rounds of Spronox over a few years with another doc., but that just didn't do it so I think he may be right about that.

Looks like your diet is very restricted! It doesn't seem to include what my doc dubbed the "worst offenders," - getting rid of malt and vinegar. He also has nuts on the list of lesser offenders. Given your diet, you may have already eliminated malt and vinegar, but double check how the meat and veggies are prepared, and what is in those waffles. If you see the word "malt" in any form- maltodextrin, barley malt, etc., they could be worsening your health. I have another posting somewhere up here that gives more details of the first stage of the diet. There are four altogether. It is worth a try!

I am at least able to work and so much improved, this is why I have faith that my doc has some stuff figured out.

Maybe there is more info on things to heal the leaky gut. Aloe vera juice? I just checked my Balch & Balch book and it recommends treatment with butyric acid, "a monounsaturated fatty acid, reduces inflammatory conditions, reduces seepage of undigested food particles, and aids in repair of the mucosal wall. N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) prevents leaky gut syndrome. In a separate section does recommend that aloe juice helps heal tissue along with a colon cleanser containing Psyllium, but it says it takes a couple weeks (what's that compared to years) and that an intolerance could develop so not to do it too long.

You are right that the leaky gut has to get healed up, in the meantime I just wonder if that powdered oral nystatin would help clear out the candida in your gut. Otherwise it would just keep drilling away and interfere with your efforts. The only other thing I can think of is that I've been extremely aggressive with the over-the-counter antifungals. I don't rotate! I take them all. Yes, it hits the candida hard, and then the toxins are there, so I do detox a lot, too. I guess I am very impatient to be well (so great I can work, I hope maybe go back to biking, hiking, even running someday- I never finished my black belt)! Plus I don't want to give the buggers any time to adapt. Instead of a meal I have a pile of antifungals. "Take that- no food just poison for you" LOL! Then detox & rest a day or two and then I hit it again. Most people seem to be doing it more gentle and steady, probably more sane. By the way, this part with the over-the-counter stuff is not what my doc is saying, I'm just doing that on my own, started in the interim between nystatin prescriptions.

Here is contact info, maybe your doc and my doc could consult and share ideas.

Glad to hear you've another appointment coming up.
