I did an Internet search on this topic and came across this thread. Yeah I know it's 12 years old but the comments are still current and to some extent helpful. Even though this was written so long ago, I still feel the need to respond. You clearly noticed that the person you're responding to is 'religious' but you automatically assumed that means Christian and therefore you go into a Christian/bible quoting rant. They may well be Christian but it is very single minded of you to immediately assume this and not even acknowledge that they may be any of the 10's of any other religion. A lot of religions have very similar values, beliefs and ethos' but as a Christian (and yes I will assume you are, based on your preaching) you should also practice recognising and accepting all religions and beliefs and therefore not 'push' your religion on others. There is nothing wrong with preaching the word of God, obviously, but preaching is very different to trying to force it. Im sure you're aware that many people believe in many different Gods and you need to be respectful of that and not inflict your judgements on anyone. Telling someone to 'join a bible teaching class and get back on the straight and narrow' is just ignorant. Would you have said this when knowingly speaking to a Muslim, Buddhist, Seikh or any other non-Christian denomination? Simply asking them to return to their faith and following what that teaches would have sufficed and still got your point across. I am hoping that as this was 12 years on, you may be more aware, understanding and open to the world around you and who knows? You might even respond and accept you were clearly out of order.
