High free intracellular calcium ramps up TPO enzyme activity, which is what the antibodies attack in thyroiditis.

Taking too much calcium combined with not enough magnesium can exacerbate this issue.

The reason that high Iodine is supposed to protect the thyroid from this condition is that iodinated lipids turn down the TPO enzyme, lowering the autoimmune response.

Iodinated lipids only occur in the thyroid at intakes of about 15mg per day or more.

Perhaps you should take this information to your doctor and see what they think about it.

I have never seen any other doctor propose this mechanism. Since you have developed Hashimoto's on high Iodine intake, I am now suspect of its validity.
