I just wanted to share my experience
I have been fasting for 15 years

only in the last 2 years or so as acid reflux become an issue for me. It as gotten so severe i have ended fasts early because of the discomfort.

This time around I started a Water Fast with the intention of doing at least 14 days ... i got severe acid reflux from day one ... i was miserable. I came to this board for a solution and one comment by a poster that said when he drank water it seemed to make it worse caught my attention

That stuck in my mind so for the last 3 days i began to pay attention to when and how the reflux started. The first thing i noticed is it doesn't happen when i sleep at night. I sleep fine in a horizontal position for most of the night.

I also noticed that i dont have reflux in the mornings ... it seems to start when i drink water. I tested my theory for 2 days and i think that poster was right!

I have had no reflux symptoms since changing how much water i take in at a time. I guess since our stomach shrinks when we fast and all digestive actions cease ... if you drink 4, 6 or 8oz of water at once you flood the small stomach pouch .... which backs up the fluid (water acid mix) into your esophogus until it can finally drain in to your small intestine.

So what has worked for me is to sip small amounts of water through out the day instead of gulping huge amounts all at once. I hope this helps someone else with this miserable condition during fasting.
