Re: Please help! Infected Wound - could lose leg

Hi C,
The MDs and he Nurse told me that applying H202 to wounds kills good tissue. I applied rubbing alcohol to it this afternoon and now I wish I hadn't done that. They told me alcohol kills good tissue as well as h202. I think I'd be OK with h202 but I'm supposed to apply this Iodosorb ointment to it for now. The nice MD cleaned it out, after numbing it, which may have helped very much. Now I hope to keep eating garlic and see that area go back to normal.
Now I have
Antibiotics that I hope NOT to take. I can say I did, just to please the Ortho MD, but as long as I'm well and healing, I see no need to take Anti Bs and possibly screw up my flora balance and who knows what else.
They drew blood to check to see if the infection had become systemic, and it has not. I didn't think it had because I have no fever.

The redness of my leg wound seemed more red yesterday. I'm afraid I wasn't taking enough raw garlic [maybe 3 or 4 cloves when it should be at least 6]. I really don't think I have a fever or systemic infection. Sorry if I'm being a PITA. I've been showering every morning, washing the wound with natural soap and warm water, then spraying h2o2 on wound and it always foams. Then I apply Iodosorb but yesterday I applied Triple
Antibiotic cream instead and always cover it with sterile bandage.
Am thinking of taking oral
Antibiotics for a few days. It be better than risking the infection spreading to the screw in my ankle, and then I'd be in big trouble, possibly facing an amputation.
What I really fear right now is the Ortho MD I have to see at 1:30 PM wanting me to be admitted to the hospital for IV
Antibiotics . The ER MD sugested that Saturday but I have my loved cats at home and no one to take care of them, plus I'd rather do this myself.
What would cause the redness to increase after it seemed to fade away for a while? I'm feeling down and scared, afraid of more bad news. I'm hoping the Ortho MD will let me keep an eye on the wound for a few more days while I take 6+ cloves of garlic and possibly oral anti biotics.
The Iodosorb ointment I put on the wound for several days did what it claims to do and removed the "euxudate" which I think means fluid. Wound seems to no longer drain like it did. It also has no foul odor to it like it did last Saturday.

H2O2 is not used on dog wounds much anymore because it retards healing and pushes the infection in deeper. Same thing with people. You might want to do some research on this.
